WHAT WE BELIEVE

THE BIBLE

We believe that the Bible, including 39 books of the Old Testament and 27 books of the New Testament, is “breathed out by God” and is without error in its original forms. The Bible has God for its author and salvation for its end. Its content is wholly centered on the Lord Jesus Christ and no portion of Scripture can be rightly understood until it leads to Him.

THE TRINITY

We believe that the Triune God has eternally existed in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – and that these three are one God. God is all-knowing, all-powerful, present in all places at all times, holy, loving, just, infinite, and eternal. Being one God, each of the Persons of the Trinity are worthy of exactly the same honor, confidence, and obedience.

GOD THE FATHER

God the Father has reigned with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purposes of His glorious grace. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving, and all-wise. He is fatherly in His attitude towards those who are called His children through faith in Jesus Christ.

JESUS CHRIST, GOD THE SON

We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God. He is the image of the invisible God and the exact imprint of His nature. Through Jesus, the fullness of God’s nature and character is revealed. Jesus Christ, in His incarnation, was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, making Him fully God and fully man.

 

Christ, in taking on flesh, lived His life in full and perfect obedience to the Father’s will and the Law. We believe that He was crucified, died for our sins, was buried, and was resurrected on the third day. After showing Himself to many witnesses, He ascended into heaven where He now sits at the right hand of God and awaits to return in power and glory to consummate His redemptive mission.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who is fully God and was there “in the beginning.” His ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to convict men of sin, give life to the believer, and to guide, instruct, and empower believers for godly living and service.

HUMANITY

We believe that humanity was created in the image of God as the pinnacle of His creative works. Man was innocent in the Garden but by choice rebelled against God by disobeying His commandment, resulting in sin and death entering into the human race.

 

Through Adam’s sin all men have entered into his guilt and have inherited a nature of sinful rebellion against God bringing him under God’s condemnation. It is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone that God brings men back into right relationship with Himself.

SALVATION

We believe that salvation is the free gift of God that comes by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone apart from any human efforts. The Gospel is the proclamation of the good news that Jesus Christ lived a perfectly sinless life and that He died a sinner’s death on a cross, was buried, and raised on the third day to new life.

 

Salvation happens when we receive this gospel – confessing with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believing in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead. Upon salvation, the Holy Spirit indwells and seals the believer until the day we meet Him face to face.

THE CHURCH

We believe that all who are united to the Lord Jesus through the gospel of grace are members of the Church, the Body and Bride of Christ, from Jesus’ resurrection to the present-day.

 

We also believe that the New Testament church is a local body of members – Spirit-indwelt, baptized believers – who gather to observe baptism and the Lord’s Supper, who are committed to accurately preaching and teaching God’s Word, and who seek to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth.

 

In such a local body, members are equally responsible to one another to employ their God-given gifts in service to the Body.

 

The church’s biblical officers are pastors, who are called to shepherd and teach, and deacons who are called to serve the Body.

THE GREAT COMMISSION

We believe that those whom God has saved are sent into the world by Christ just as He was by the Father. We who are sent are ambassadors, commissioned to go make disciples of the whole world. We also believe that everyone should have the opportunity to carefully examine the facts about Jesus and have an opportunity to make an informed and educated decision about Him and His claims.

BAPTISM AND COMMUNION

These are the ordinances of the church. Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer into water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, therefore identifying the believer with God. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.

 

Baptism is also a testimony to the believer’s faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to church membership. Communion, also called The Lord’s Supper, is a symbolic act of obedience whereby those who profess faith in Jesus Christ, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize and proclaim the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.

INTERESTED IN BAPTISM

LAST THINGS

God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. According to His promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth, the dead will be raised, and Christ will judge all men in righteousness. The unrighteous will be consigned to hell, the place of everlasting punishment. The righteous in their resurrected and glorified bodies will receive their reward and will dwell and reign forever with the Lord in the new heaven and the new earth.

THE FAMILY

God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption. Marriage is the sacred union of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His Church.

 

Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord. Parents are to teach their children spiritual and moral values and lead them, through consistent lifestyle example and loving discipline, to make choices based on biblical truth. Children are to honor and obey their parents.
